How to compare two things (taller than) and three or more (the tallest) in English, with rules for one-syllable, two-syllable, and irregular adjectives.
Comparative adjectives compare two things. Superlative adjectives compare three or more.
Add -er / -est: tall → taller → the tallest
If it ends in -e, just add -r/-st: nice → nicer → the nicest
If it ends in consonant + vowel + consonant, double the final letter: big → bigger → the biggest
Use more / the most: beautiful → more beautiful → the most beautiful
Exception: adjectives ending in -y change to -ier/-iest: happy → happier → the happiest
